School Banks

Pupils in the Rugby area are being encouraged to save with the help of Rugby Credit Union. They help set up their school bank and are taught the importance of money management. This has been achieved with the support of a grant from the Local Network Fund.

Pupils are issued with their own pass book. Each individual school has a pass book cover designed by one of the pupils in the school. A competition is run for the pupils to design their own front cover and a small prize is awarded to the winner and runner up. Once the children have made three payments they receive a money box to encourage them to save their pennies.

Schools which have a bank are Oakfield, Rokeby, Brooke, St Oswalds, Henry Hinde, Long Lawford, Newbold Riverside and Cawston Grange. When they leave the school the children can carry on paying into the Credit Union and once they are sixteen can become a senior member.

Further funding is being sought to enable the Credit Union to open up more school banks in both junior and secondary schools within the Rugby area.

For further information contact Rugby Credit Union on 01677 577900.
