New Schemes to reduce Crime in your area.
To reduce the risk of Distraction burglaries to the homes of the most vulnerable, the Police will be helping with home security by visiting elderly resident to review their security. If the home is not as secure as it could be, then they will arrange for new door locks, chains and other locks where needed to be fitted, free of charge. To help prevent Distraction Burglaries they will also be ensuring that the residents are aware of the safest ways to answer the door. While this is aimed at the elderly residents, if you are aware of any local residents who you feel is at risk, please contact your local safer neighbourhood policing team to arrange a visit. They can be contacted at the police station, phone on 01788 541111 or by email from the Website www.safer-neighbourhoods.co.uk. Remember always use a door chain and check Identity cards of anyone you don’t know. If in doubt keep them out!

The Theft of Mopeds and small motorbikes is slowly growing trend in Rugby. While it is not to widespread, it does have a big impact. Not only do the Victims lose their transport, but will often face higher Insurance Premiums as well. The Local community often suffers from this crime as well, with the stolen Mopeds being ridden dangerously around the area, usually ending up burnt out and dumped. Working in partnership with Rugby Borough Council and the police, Warwickshire County Council Community Safety Team has bought a supply of high quality Motorbike security chains with a Padlock. We would like all the owners of the Mopeds and Small bikes to purchase one these locks to secure their bikes. All money raised will be used to buy more locks. As Overslade is a Priority Area, all the owners of motorbikes/Mopeds under 125CC will be receiving a letter offering these chains for a special price of £10.
Most of these thefts occur over night from out side peoples homes. It is best where possible to lock it to something solid-A gate post or something hard to move.
